ABSTRACT
The present study was aimed to determine the hepatoprotective effects of ethanolic root extract of vaccaria pyramidata against CCl4-induced hepatic injury in wistar albino rats. Pretreatment with Silymarin, ethanolic root extract of vaccaria pyramidata showed better protection against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity. Test indicated a reduction in elevated serum enzyme levels i.e. SGOT, SGPT & ALP significantly in test groups when compared with toxic control. Pretreatment with standard Silymarin, ethanolic extract significantly reduced the levels of direct & total bilirubin when compared to toxic control group. The rats pretreated with silymarin & ethanolic root extract of vaccaria pyramidata exhibited significant decreased in triglyceride levels when compared to the toxic group. This was also confirmed by the result of histopathological examination, which revealed dose dependent decrease in incidence and severity of histopathological changes.
