ABSTRACT
A significant number of molar distalization appliances rely on either dentoalveolar or extraoral anchorage. These appliances are utilized to correct Class II skeletal discrepancies through a non-extraction approach and also alleviate crowding without causing adverse arch expansion, which can compromise both aesthetics and stability. Traditionally, upper molar distalization techniques required patient cooperation with headgear or elastics. Recently, various intraoral distalization appliances have been introduced to minimize the need for patient compliance. This article reviews and describes these newly introduced methods of molar distalization.
