ABSTRACT
The main intent of study was to ascertain antibacterial properties of nanoparticles prepared from leaf extracts of Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain), Phyllanthus emblica (Amla) and Murraya koenigii (Kadhi patta) against the growth of pathogenic strains of E.coli (5 H Dα) and Staphylococcus aureus by studying absorbance with spectrophotometry at 600 nm. Aqueous extracts of concentrations varying from 20 mcg/ml, 40 mcg/ml, 60 mcg/ml, 80 mcg/ml to 100 mcg/ml were prepared from the nanoparticles (NPs) of each test plant and these were tested against gram positive (S. aureus) and gram negative bacteria (E. coli) by liquid broth dilution culture method and by Agar-disc-diffusion method. The Amla silver Nanoparticles have shown highest antimicrobial activity at concentration of 80 mcg/ml followed by Kadhi patta and Ajwain against S. aureus. The antibacterial property against E. coli was shown by nanoparticles of Kadhi patta and Ajwain at 80 mcg/ml followed by that of NPs of Amla by liquid culture broth method. The same trend was observed with the Agar Disc Diffusion method by three plant NPs. The antibacterial properties against S. aureus was shown by Kadhi patta at a range of 60-80 mcg/ml and by Amla at a range of 40-60 mcg/ml and for Ajwain it is 80 mcg/ml. The NPs of three plants showed more antibacterial potential against S. aureus than E.coli. Therefore, solvent extracts of NPs of Amla, Kadhi patta and Ajwain could be explored further as a potential source of bioactive compounds of useful drugs.
