CASE REPORT ON CAUDA EQUINA SYNDROME

ABSTRACT
Cauda equina syndrome (CES), is a condition that occurs when the bundle of nerves below the end of the spinal cord known as cauda equina is damaged. Sign and symptoms include saddle anesthesia, low back pain, pain that radiates down the leg, numbness around the anus, and loss of bowel and bladder control. Disc herniation in the lower region of the back is the main cause of the disease. A 68 year old male patient came with complaints of B/L lower limb swelling and complaints of pain over the left hip joint developed cauda equina syndrome. The diagnosis was confirmed by Contrast MRI of the lumbar spine and radiograph of LS spine. It showed a disc bulge with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. The treatment option is surgery (lumbar laminectomy).
