ABSTRACT
The current study aims to develop and assess an oral fast disintegration tablet containing levofloxacin, which was produced using a natural disintegrant through a direct compression method. The fast-dissolving tablets were examined for their physico-chemical properties, in-vitro dissolution and compatibility with additives. Levofloxacin, croscarmellose sodium, xantham gum, magnesium stearate, talc, starch, saccharin sodium, peppermint oil and mannitol which enhances the mouth feel. These tablets were tested for hardness, drug content, weight variation, friability, wetting time and in vitro disintegration time. The release rate of drugs from fast dissolving tablets intensifies with a rise in the concentration of natural super disintegrants, and the Levofloxacin formulation reaches the peak levels.
Keywords: Levofloxacin, Direct compression, Oral dispersible tablets, Xanthum gum, Croscarmellose sodium.
