STUDIES ON ENHANCEMENT OF ORAL BIOAVAILABILITY OF SELECTED BCS CLASS IV DRUGS

ABSTRACT

Furosemide is a drug labeled in class IV of the biopharmaceutical classification system as it is both poor soluble and poor permeable. The present study was to develop once daily sustained release dosage form for the treatment of emergency clinical situations like edema and hypertension. Furosemide having high permeability through stomach but its solubility limitation it cannot enter into systemic circulation. It was logically decided to design experiment so as to achieve better therapy. The purpose of the research was provide fast dissolving and sustained release oral dosage form which can provide quick onset of action and sustained action entire the day. Initially solubility of furosemide was enhanced by solid dispersion technique from that immediate and sustained floating tablet was prepared. The magical enhancement of bioavailability of class IV drugs is clear indication of its potential to be used in future for other class IV drugs.
