ABSTRACT
Cytokine status and C-reactive protein (CRP) level were studied in 65 patients with arterial hypertension, who made up 2 groups depending on blood pressure: 1st group - 34 patients with blood pressure within 140/90 - 149/98 mmHg. Group 2 - 31 patients with blood pressure above 149/98 mmHg. Serum levels of CRP, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNFα were studied using Cytokine test system (St. Petersburg, Russia) by ELISA method. An increase in the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines was found as BP increased. The presence of latent inflammatory process in the examined contingent may cause impaired regulation of vascular tone, form endothelial dysfunction and be a pathogenetic mechanism of arterial hypertension.
Keywords: arterial hypertension, inflammation, cytokines, C-reactive protein.
