AYURVEDIC THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF SAMASHARKARA CHURNA IN THE PURVIEW OF ADENOID DISEASE (KANTHA SHALOOKA) IN CHILDREN: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Aim: This review article attempts to analyze the probable mode of action of Samasharkara Churna in Adenoid enlargement in children. Background: Samasharkara Churna is an unexplored herbal formulation explained in Arsha Rogadhikara in Bhaishajaratnavali and is indicated in Kanta Roga (Disease of throat), Agnimandya (Decreased appetite), Kasa (Cough), and Shwasa (Asthma). This formulation can be prescribed for a wide range of respiratory disorders, especially diseases of the throat. Kantha Shalooka is a disease of the throat, caused due to vitiated Kapha vata in association with Rakta producing nodular swelling. Results: Samasharkara means equal proportion of sugar to the other ingredients. While analysing the formulation, ingredients. Ayurvedic principle of drug action, it is found that formulation is composed of 7 parts of Shunthi, 6 parts Pippali, 5 parts Maricha, 4 parts Nagakesara, 3 parts Teja patra, 2 parts Twak, and 1 part of Ela which are Katu in Rasa, Ushna virya and Katu vipaka which does Lekhana and Kapha Chedana. Which reduces the nodular swelling. Sharkara has Madhura rasa, Sheetha virya Madura vipaka which makes the formulation effective, palatable, and highly acceptable by children as it contains an equal proportion of Khanda sharkara in it and does pitta and rakta prasadana. Conclusion: Samasharkara Churna can be prescribed as a nonsurgical intervention in the management of Adenoid disease in children.
