CONCEPTS OF PRANASTA SHALYA AND NIRHARANA UPAYA IN AYURVEDIC PRACTICE: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Acharya Sushruta defined Shalya Tantra as Ayurveda branch which is dedicated to the ancient surgical practices. This branch of Ayurveda is deals with several surgical and para-surgical conditions. In this context the term Pranashta Shalya refers to the foreign objects embedded in the body that required surgical practice for its removal. Removal of foreign objects can be done using various Yantra and Shastra, along with utilization of Kshara, Agni and Vrana Nidana. Ancient text of Shalya Tantra provides detailed guidance on the management of Pranashta Shalya. Pachana, Bhedana, Darana, Pramarjana, Nirdhmapana and Prakshalana are major approaches of removing Pranashta Shalya. This review explores the Ayurvedic approach to Pranashta Shalya and its management.
