A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO ANALYSE THE QUALITY OF WATER FOR PHARMACEUTICAL USE

ABSTRACT
Water is a polar solvent with the ability to form hydrogen bond, it is an excellent solvent which is able to dissolve, absorb, adsorb or suspend many different compounds. In pharmaceutical industry water is used as a cleaning agent, excipient, diluents of the product, solvent in the synthesis, in formulation, in manufacturing of product and analytical reagents. Many types of water are used for these purposes such as purified water, sterile purified water, water for hemodialysis, water for injection, bacteriostatic water for injection, sterile water for injection, sterile water for irrigation, and sterile water for inhalation. It is therefore important that the water should be meet the test standards given in the compendium. This review discusses the quality, test and use of the different types of water according set standards of compendium.
