ABSTRACT
Cosmetic procedures are becoming increasingly popular with dermatologists. They are used to reverse the effects of ageing, improve the quality of the skin, augment facial structures, and improve the patient's appearance in general. Formulations and delivery methods could see breakthroughs and developments thanks to nanotechnology. This rapidly evolving technology has been extensively used for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Nanotechnology-based cosmetic formulations are still a relatively young, very promising, and actively investigated field. It has been demonstrated that using nanotechnology in cosmetics can both improve a formulation's usefulness and address some of the shortcomings of conventional cosmetics. It has been discovered that the use of nanomaterials increases the effectiveness of products and customer satisfaction. As a result, many traditional cosmeceuticals are being replaced by nano cosmeceuticals. However, research on the nanotoxicological effects of nano cosmeceuticals has highlighted worries about potential health risks because of their possible skin penetration, which could have harmful consequences. This overview includes pertinent patents and a summary of the many nanotechnology-based methods being used to provide cosmeceutical and cosmetic products. It lists the advantages of each together with any possible concerns to health and the environment. Additionally, it addresses the many guidelines and suggestions released by various regulatory bodies and highlights the regulatory status of cosmeceuticals. It also evaluates the regulatory rules in India, Europe, and the USA. Finally, in order to help consumers and regulators understand the advantages as well as the toxicity associated with the continuous and long-term uses of these products, this article aims to give an overview of nano cosmetics and nanocosmeceuticals and their applications in the cosmetic industries. This will encourage the prudent use of these products.
