ABSTRACT
This review aims to discuss the types of endodontic sealers, categorized by their setting reaction type, composition, and properties. Each root canal sealer has its unique set of advantages and disadvantages, making selection crucial for successful endodontic treatment. There are several types of sealers such as Zinc oxide eugenol, Calcium hydroxide, Glass ionomer, Bio-ceramic based and Resin based sealers. This article also discusses sealing ability of new endodontic sealers. Historically, zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) sealer has been the gold standard and most widely used sealer, but newer alternatives have emerged. Bio-ceramic based sealers, comprising calcium silicate and calcium phosphate have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their exceptional physical and biological properties. The incorporation of calcium phosphate into bio-ceramic materials enhances their setting properties, ultimately improving the bonding between the sealer and root dentin. These bio-ceramic sealers offer a promising alternative to traditional sealers, with potential benefits for endodontic treatment outcomes.
Keywords: Root canal sealers, zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) sealer, Calcium hydroxide sealer, Bio-ceramic based sealers, Resin based sealers.
