ANALYTICAL REVIEW OF NIDRA AND NIDRA VIKRUTHI IN THE PRESENT HEALTH SCENARIO

ABSTRACT
Ahara, Nidra and Brahmacharya plays significant role in preventing major diseases affecting both physical and mental well-being. The inclusion of Nidra in the three Upastambha (pillars) establishes its value. While explaining about Nidra, Acharyas stated that delight and sorrow, growth and wasting, strength and weakness, virility and impotence, the knowledge and ignorance as well as the survival of life and its termination depend on the sleep. Humans spend almost a third of their lifetime sleeping. The most common health problems reported by night shift employees are indigestion (70%), diarrhoea (58%), loss of appetite (56%). Aim: To introduce and concept of Nidra and its physiological impact on the human body, The past few decades have witnessed growth in the population of shift works especially in the developing countries. People who are engaged in night duty shifts as a part of their job tend to compromise with the physiology of normal sleep. Nidra (sleep) is not just a phenomenon to ignore but it has great impact in our body and the study of sleep phenomenon is important for the early diagnosis of sleep disorders.
