A CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF MADANAPHALADI KWATHA IN STHAULYA

ABSTRACT
Sthaulya is one among the major lifestyle disorders that are prevalent nowadays and is considered a global epidemic. It is discouraged by the society for social as well as medical reasons. Sthaulya and its symptoms can be corelated clearly with Obesity which is a state of excess adipose tissue mass that impart health risk. A Body Mass Index (BMI) over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is obese. According to WHO in 2022, 1 in 8 people in the world were obese. In 2022, 2.5 billion adults (18 years and older) were overweight. Total number of 60 patients were selected from the O.P.D. of Kayachikitsa department of Rishikul campus, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Haridwar on the basis of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All the patients were randomly divided into 2 groups, Group-I (Lifestyle Modification) and Group-II (Madanaphaladi Kwatha with lifestyle modification) for clinical trial. The duration of treatment was 90 days with a follow up period of 15 days. Assessment was done on the basis of subjective parameters as well as objective parameters. The overall effect of Group-II was better than Group-I. Contents of the Madanaphaladi Kwatha are Madanaphala, Amalaki, Haritaki, Vibhitaki, Musta, Patha, Vatsaka, Saptaparna, Aragwadha & Nimba. Madanaphaladi Kwatha with lifestyle modification was very effective in managing the patients of Sthaulya by breaking the pathogenesis due to Vata-Kaphahara, Deepana-Pachana, Lekhana, Medohara and Srotoshodhaka properties of drug. Ahara and exercises advised for Sthaulya helped in managing the disease efficiently.
