AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON VERTIGO IN GOVERNMENT AYURVED HOSPITAL, NANDED

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Vertigo is an illusion of movements often rotator of the patients or his surrounding. The patients of vertigo are presented with different manner as straight forward spinning, the floor may tilt, sink or rise or patient may describe veering sideway on walking or feeling pulled to one side as if magnet . Incidence of vertigo is 5- 10% which reaches to 40% in patients older than 40 years. Incidence is falling upto 25% in subjects older than 65 years. Aim and Objective The exact cause and underlying disease should be clarified for actual reference of the patient to physician, ENT, neurosurgeon etc. Material and Method: An observational study was done on 30 patients of OPD and IPD of our Department of Rognidan, Government Ayurved College, Nanded. Result Among systemic disorders Cardiovascular system, Hypertension was found in 23.33%, hypotension cases due to vomiting and diarrhea is 10%, anemia in 16.66 %. IHD cases of vertigo was not found. Among all neurological causes, cervical spondylosis was 16.66 %. Metabolic disorder, in which Diabetes Mellitus was 16.66%. Otogenic causes, in which Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) was 10%. In miscellaneous cases like Peptic ulcer is 6.67%. Conclusion: Non otological causes of vertigo are greater than otological causes. The significant cause found is hypertension in elderly people. Female were more affected than men.
