ABSTRACT
A new series of 6/7-substituted-chromenone chalcone derivatives (15a-d) was designed and synthesized utilizing acid catalyzed condensation methodology. The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV, ATR and mass spectroscopy, and evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against colon (HCT-116 and COLO-205), leukemia (HTP-1) and lung (NCIH-322) cancer cell lines. Compound 15d (7-Chloro-3-(3-oxo-3-(4-phenoxy-phenyl)prop-1-enyl)-4H-chromen-4-one) emerged as the most promising cytotoxic agent among all the synthesized derivatives (15a-d) by exhibiting significant IC50 against colon cancer cell line (HCT-116), can be subjected to advanced investigations.
