Dr. C. Vani*
ABSTRACT
Bisphosphonates are the group of drugs that prevent bone resorption and hence are used to treat various diseases and conditions involving bone fragility like osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, hypercalcaemia of malignancy and multiple myeloma.1The “bis†prefix is a term indicating two - phosphonate groups, attached to a common carbon atom. These are structurally similar to natural pyrophosphate (PP), which is a normal product of human metabolism that has a calcium chelating property.[2]
