IMAGING TECHNIQUES IN ANORECTAL DISORDERS

ABSTRACT
Anorectal disease is a group of conditions that affect the anus and rectum. The most common conditions in this group include haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anorectal abscess and anal fistula. Although it is rarely life-threatening, these disorders can significantly affect patient life. The Anorectum is of paramount importance since it is essential to the mechanism of Faecal continence. Also in addition it is prone to many diseases such as Anorectal tumours and perianal fistulae. Faecal incontinence can be caused by Anal sphincter defects and Each disorder is suggested by its characteristic history. Diagnostic studies which provide some understanding of the pathophysiology of the underlying complaint are available or are in development. Hence a comprehensive review of this topic has been undertaken to evaluate the use of various imaging modalities in these Anorectal disorders.
