Abstract

REVIEW ON THE USE OF THE POLYMERS USED IN PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS

ABSTRACT

Pharmaceutical binders are used to control and improve the dissolution and disintegration of the formulations. Binders are derived from both natural and synthetic sources. Xanthan gum, gum acacia are natural binders used to thicken the syrups, jellies and binding of tablets granules. HPMC, PVP K30 and cellulose derivatives have the properties to control the dissolution profile of drug and it is used in formulation of sustained release drugs.
