ABSTRACT
Diagnosis of disease is an important aspect in the clinical practice. The importance of clinical and laboratory diagnosis is underlined by ancient scholars. There are various method described in the Ayurvedic texts for the roga-rogi pariksha like trividha pariksha, dash vidha pariksha and aṣṭasthana pariksha etc. In the heading Astasthana Pariksha, Mutra Pariksha is described, which was an important tool used in the medieval period to decide the prognosis of disease. The present study entitled “Evaluation of Taila Bindu Pariksha as a prognostic tool in Mutra roga w.s.r. to Madhumeha” is designed to evaluate the Taila Bindu Pariksha as a prognostic tool in Madhumeha and to evaluate the relation of complete urine examination and blood sugar with Taila Bindu Pariksha in patients of Madhumeha. The study was done on 30 patients of Madhumeha. Different aspects of Taila Bindu Pariksha were observed like spread time, split time, sink, direction of spread and final shape of oil drop in the urine sample. It was analyzed to find a definite relationship between characters elicited by Taila Bindu Pariksha with modern laboratory parameters in patients of Madhumeha. The comparison between modern laboratory parameter and description given in classical literature of Ayurveda with respect to the direction of the spread and the shape formed by the oil drop in majority of the patients, assessed for determining the prognosis of the disease was found highly significant. Apart from this the shape of oil drop was more significant than direction. So we can conclude that Taila Bindu Pariksha can be utilizing as a prognostic tool.
