BENEFITS OF NATURAL SWEETENERS: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Nowadays, Sweeteners have attracted a great attention due to its various pharmacological uses such as carcinogenic activity, improvement of taste and cariogenic activity. Sweeteners are also used as food additive which adds the basic taste of sweetness to food, provides texture, bulking properties, aroma and color. There are two types of sweeteners i.e. Natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners. Natural sweeteners are those which is extracted from plants without any chemical modification. The production process of natural sweeteners is less time consuming and cost efficient. Natural sweeteners are high in demand due to their pharmacological activity. Natural sweeteners have several advantages such as low calorific value, nontoxic and super sweet properties. Artificial sweeteners are synthetically synthesized product and their work up procedure is very tedious. Use of natural sweeteners has grown spectacularly in recent years and they are preferred over synthetic or artificial sweeteners due to the rejection of artificial sweeteners, which cause serious health concerns about high sugar intake.
