ABSTRACT
Malignancies of the small bowel are a rare occurrence with a worldwide incidence of less than 1.0 per 100,000 populations. Only 2% of digestive tract cancers occurs in the small intestine as compared to approximately 57% in the large intestine. We report a 53-year old man with ileal adenocarcinoma who presented with nonspecific symptoms. Due to the vagueness of his symptoms and the non- conclusive initial endoscopic and radiologic investigations the diagnosis was delayed. The diagnosis was finally made after the patient had exploratory laparotomy followed by histopathologic examination and immunohistochemistry.
Keywords: Ileal adenocarcinoma, small intestinal adenocarcinoma, adenocarcinoma, small intestinal tumour.
