DERIVATIVE UV-SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC AREA UNDER CURVE INVESTIGATION FOR PHARMACEUTICAL ESTIMATION OF METRONIDAZOLE

ABSTRACT
The manuscript presents novel, simple, precise and accurate First Order Derivative UV-Spectrophotometric method for estimation of Metronidazole in bulk and tablets using Area under Curve (AUC) technique. The proposed study was performed on double beam UV-VIS Spectrophotometer (UV-2450, Shimadzu, Japan). Stock standard solutions and sample solutions of Metronidazole were prepared in methanol. It obeyed Beer’s law in the concentration range of 3 - 18 μg/mL with coefficient of correlation (r2) < 0.99. Further the developed method was validated according to ICH guidelines. The described method can be routinely used for determination of Metronidazole in bulk and tablets.
