IN VITRO STUDY ON ROOT CANAL SEALERS EVALUATION IN TERM OF MICROLEAKAGE

ABSTRACT
Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the apical microleakage of a new MTA sealer MTA Fillapex (Angelus), ProRoot MTA (Dentsply) and AH Plus (Dentsply). Material and Methods: A total of 50 extracted human single rooted permanent incisor teeth were taken and decoronated at cemento-enamel junction. The access cavities and biomechanical preparation were performed using endodontic rotary system. The teeth were randomly divided into five groups with n=10; Group I - Gutta-percha and MTA Fillapex; Group II – Gutta percha and Pro root MTA; Group III- Gutta-percha and AH plus sealer; Group IV- Gutta-percha without sealer (positive control group); Group V- Root canal remained empty (negative control). All the specimens were stored at 370C with 100% humidity for one week. Roots were longitudinally split using a diamond disk. Linear apical dye penetration was measured under illuminating microscope under 30X magnification using digital vernier calipers. Results: MTA Fillapex group showed maxmium apical microleakage. In addition, AH plus and Pro root MTA were found to be comparable and no statistical significant difference was observed. Conclusion: The sealing ability of MTA fillapex showed more microleakage than other two materials.
