A REVIEW ON BERBERIS ARISTATA

ABSTRACT
Berberis aristata, also known as Indian barberry, "chutro" or tree turmeric, is a shrub belonging to the family Berberidaceae. In India, Berberis aristata is used in traditional herbal medicine. Its stem, roots, and fruits are used in Ayurveda. The plant is used traditionally in inflammation, wound healing, skin disease, diarrhoea and jaundice. Pharmacological studies on the plant revels the proven activity of its as hypoglycaemic, antibacterial, antifungal, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anticancer. This paper presents a review on phytochemical and pharmacological studies of Berberis aristata.
